Gaming Machine Entitlements Exchange (GMEX)

Gaming Machine Entitlements (GMEs) can now be bought and sold at any time under the new GMEX system which launched on 10 February 2025.

GMEX is an online platform which replaces the former anonymous and restrictive Trading Round process with a more open, ongoing exchange model.

Interested sellers and buyers will no longer be anonymous and can accept, reject or negotiate offers directly via the platform at any time.

Hotel groups with multiple gaming venues will also be able to transfer (in effect, relocate) GMEs internally amongst their own venues, subject to their licence conditions.

Forfeiture rules will continue to apply at a tiered rate as part of the Government’s ongoing commitment to reducing the overall number of gaming machines in SA.
